Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) in Sonoma County is an all-day Saturday event for girls in 7th and 8th grades. Boys are welcome to attend. The day consists of hands-on workshops in a variety of subjects led by women working in the sciences.
The objectives of EYH events are to:
- Foster awareness of the wide range of career options for women in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology (STEM)-based fields
- Provide opportunities to meet and talk with women who work in these fields
- Increase young women's awareness of the importance of STEM education and the need for early career exploration
For over 45 years, the Expanding Your Horizons Network has brought together thousands of volunteers and reached over 1M girls to expose them to fun, hands-on STEM experiences. Each EYH event is organized by local volunteers, who find an appropriate site, recruit local women as presenters, raise funds from local organizations, and generate publicity within the community.
Expanding Your Horizons is powered by Techbridge Girls. Techbridge Girls’ mission is to re-engineer the way STEM education is taught by equipping and galvanizing gatekeepers – out-of-school time (OST) educators and STEM professionals – with gender responsive, culturally relevant curriculum and equity training that empowers them to act as an advocate for BIPOC girls pursuing their STEM aspirations.
